How To Survive Christmas Without Getting Stressed

December 20, 2015 Leave a Comment

Hey everyone in today’s blog post I thought that I would share with you some of my tips and tricks for staying relaxed over the Christmas period. I know that for many of you reading the whole workload of Christmas is split up and we each have our own roles. Whether this be making sure all of the presents are wrapped or there is enough food in the house for all of the family, friends and guests you will be having over.

Take time out for yourself

This one is the most important in my opinion having some time to yourself even if it’s just five minutes will help you to reduce your stress levels. You can do this by taking a relaxing bath after a long day of Christmas preparations, reading a chapter of a book or listening to some music. I always like to take myself away from whatever is happening to relax for a moment. Often this is going up to my room where I can be by myself and clear my mind.

Ask for help

It’s okay to ask for help even if it’s something small like asking someone to carry something. If it takes the pressure of of you then why not ask even if you are the type of person who likes to do everything themselves sometimes a little help is needed. I know asking for help sometimes can make a person seem week but if it will mean you are less stressed why wouldn’t you ask? I know I would obviously don’t ask them to do everything you would because that’s not the same. Having someone help you here and there can make a huge difference.

Prepare ahead of time
When it comes to Christmas time whether it’s to do with presents, food or party planning I always like to plan way ahead of time. For example, I have brought all of my Christmas presents for my dad’s side of the family as I know I’m going away soon. This means that I won’t be stressing out at the last moment to buy all of the presents. I’d say prepare from now even if it’s just making a list of the things you need to get therefore at least it’s eliminating a bit of stress. I love making lists in general but especially at this time of year I find that they’re most useful and help me to get things done.

Enjoy Christmas

Something we often forget to do is actually enjoy Christmas I know from observing people in my family who do a lot around this time of year and then forget to enjoy it themselves. We can help those around us by helping them the night before for instance so that on Christmas day itself they can enjoy it as much as possible too. Christmas is a time for making memories as well as having fun so how can you do that if you are running around like a headless chicken?

Light some candles and drink some tea
This may seem a really easy way to reduce stress but it’s one of the ones that I do the most. I love lighting a candle and sitting down with a cup of tea whether it’s to read a book, watch a TV show or film I find this so relaxing. You don’t need to buy expensive tea or candles you can pick up amazing ones at H&M for example. As for tea I usually just have English breakfast tea with milk or Earl Grey with milk. These teas can easily be picked up at any local grocery store however the brand that you pick is up to you.
