Brasserie Of Light | Selfridges

October 14, 2019 Leave a Comment

A few months ago, myself and two of my best friends decided to try out Brasserie Of Light which is based in Selfridges. Brasserie of Light is one of those restaurants that became popular due to people posting photos at the restaurant on Instagram. The whole aesthetic of the restaurant is breathtaking and definitely right up my street. I feel like it gives off a New York City vibe or a roaring 20’s vibe which I also love as I’m a big fan of Gossip Girl I mean who isn’t right? We decided to do something special as our friend from Hong Kong was in London and we don’t get to see her that much. I had been wanting to go to this restaurant for a while so when my friends agreed to go I was really excited.

We went on a Saturday at around 6.30 pm and it wasn’t that busy at all which was surprising considering it’s a popular restaurant on Instagram. As I don’t really drink alcohol a lot I love a restaurant that does good mocktails. I went for the Strawberry Kisses which was £5.50 which was a  strawberry cocktail with strawberry purée, pineapple, cranberry, fresh lemon and orgeat syrup inside. The mocktail was delicious and I would definitely go as far as to say that I would just go there for drinks one time because it was that good!

For dinner, we didn’t get any starters as we all wanted to order a dessert and we all knew that we would be really full after a starter and a main course and probably wouldn’t end up ordering a dessert otherwise. For my main course, I got the spaghettini with lobster, blistered datterini tomatoes, chilli and garlic which was £29.75. I know it sounds like quite a lot for the main course and it is however, “Brasserie of Light is a destination restaurant and bar offering all-day dining in a chic, Art Deco space set within Selfridges department store.” The fact that the restaurant is even in Selfridges makes up for the price as the department store itself is known for high-class and elegance. I actually really love Selfridges and much prefer it to Harrods as it’s brighter and I feel like it’s chicer whereas Harrods is more luxury and oldfashioned.

For dessert, we all decided to get different ones and then share them. First of all, we decided to get the golden apple which was £8.50 and was made up of a thin apple tart, candied pecans, cinnamon streusel, salted caramel ice cream, and toffee sauce. We then chose the chocolate bubbles which was £8.50 and was made up of Valrhona guanaja dark chocolate, dark chocolate mousse, chocolate brownie, vanilla ice cream, and chocolate pearls. Lastly, we chose the orbit dessert which was £8.75 and was made up of dark chocolate mousse, salted caramel ice cream, milk foam, honeycomb, and popping candy. I had the apple and pecan tart which was really delicious and it came out hot as well which is a bonus. I really enjoyed the chocolate bubbles dessert as well however, I wasn’t a fan of the orbit dessert as the foam tasted a bit strange to me.

Overall, I thought that the restaurant was really good and definitely well worth the money. I am so glad that I got to experience it with two of my best friends who also enjoyed it a lot as well. The service was really good as the staff was really friendly and very attentive to detail which you would expect in a restaurant like this. Also, I have to mention how Instagrammable the restaurant is as there are many photo opportunities within the main restaurant & the bathrooms as well! I will definitely be going back soon as I had a great time and I may try and do a bit of shopping in Selfridges at the same time too. The restaurant itself is a mid to high end restaurant I would say as the price of everything is that little bit more expensive however, I was happy to pay the price as the quality of the food was really good and I had a great experience overall.
