Hey everyone Happy New Year! This past year has been one of a kind that’s for sure, however, there have been so many positive things that have come out of it as well. I am very grateful for many things especially the more important things in life such as good health, family, friends, etc… I still wanted to do my yearly New Years Day post even though we don’t know what the next few months are going to be like or when we can get back to “normal”. However, I know that there is light at the end of the tunnel and one day we will be appreciating the little things in life. There are many things I want to do however, I also think I will be easing back into normal life again slowly as it will be a shock to the system. I know how tough the last year has been for some and I just wanted to say that I am sending my love to all because it hasn’t been easy.
At the beginning of 2020, I found it incredibly hard because my mum was rushed to hospital with a kidney infection in January and spent a week in the hospital. It was the scariest time of my life as I am very close to my mum and I was dealing with the situation all alone. After, that the virus came to the UK and we had our first national lockdown which I found really tough. I think the problem was I was reading way too much news around the virus and it really took me to a dark place. I eventually took up some online therapy later in the year because my anxiety was just through the roof. I am in a better place mentally now as I am reading less about the virus but I am still making sure to look after myself both mentally and physically.
I am going to be doing a separate blog post on my plans for my blog and my YouTube channel for 2021. There are definitely some things I would like to do on both platforms this year but also I want to focus on more of the behind-the-scenes things. SEO has become a big part of both running a blog and a YouTube channel so I want to focus on that too. I am still loving creating content however, I know that when life goes back to normal I will want to be out of the house as much as possible. I would like to find the right balance between creating content and also doing normal things as well. I may dedicate a day every week where I create content in order to keep on top of it but also have the other days to meet up with friends or family.
Just a few things from last year:
- I managed to visit Italy in January for work but only for a few short days
- I got an amazing Disney cake commissioned for my birthday
- I watched many many hours of Disney World vlogs
- I learnt a lot about myself
- I went on lots of walks
- I had to be the strongest I have ever been when my mum went to the hospital (She’s okay now but it was a rough ride)
- I made many new friends as well as making the friendships I already have stronger
- I moved homes on the hottest week of the year
- I went on a solo trip to the Cotswolds
- I did get to go to some restaurants in between lockdowns & tiers
- I took part in my first Vlogmas
2020 Blog/YouTube Goals:
- Reach 180,000 views on my blog by 1st January 2020 (I didn’t end up blogging that much this year so I only reached 153,871 views)
- Reach 180,000 views & 5,000 subscribers on my YouTube channel by 1st January 2020 (Although I did upload more videos this year I only reached 143, 239 views & 3,061 subscribers)
- Blog every day for a week (I didn’t manage to do this in 2020)
- Upload a video every day for a week (I did achieve this as I took part in Vlogmas this year)
- Try and upload a blog post or video every week (I would say for the most part I managed to upload a video once every other week but there was definitely some times where I didn’t upload a blog post for ages)
- Work more on my SEO (I have done some but not as much as I wanted to do)
- Collab with at least two other creators (I have done this as I started my own podcast Diary of an Influencer where I have a fireside chat with influencers every week. I am so excited to see where 2021 takes the podcast)
2020 Personal Goals:
- Start netball again (I was supposed to start netball again but everything happened and then everything happened. I’m not sure if I want to start it up again or not)
- Go swimming at least once a week (I did start to go swimming before everything happened, I would like to do it again when I feel more confident)
- Learn French again (I actually did take up French lessons in the first lockdown)
- Save £8,000 by the end of 2020 (I definitely didn’t do this…)
- Declutter my room and stop buying things I never use (I have decluttered my room a bit but there is more to declutter, I also have bought less this year and have only bought things that I am more likely to use)
- Create more of a capsule wardrobe instead of having items that I only wear once (Again I haven’t really bought many clothes this year only ones that I know I will definitely wear)
- Visit either Norway, Sweden, Finland or even all three! (Sadly because of what has happened this year I didn’t get to travel to any of these places)
- Go back to Ireland to explore more as last time I was only there for 24 hours (Again this didn’t happen)
- Be more productive in my everyday life (I do think I stayed productive for the most part which can be hard when you are working from home)
- Read a book once a month (I didn’t manage to do this but I did read a few books)
2021 Blog/YouTube Goals:
- Reach 180,000 views on my blog by 1st January 2022
- Reach 160,000 views on my YouTube channel and 5,000 subscribers by 1st January 2022
- Blog every day for a week
- Work more on my SEO
- Work with a brand
- Collaborate with other bloggers
- Collaborate with other YouTubers
- Meet some creators in real life
2021 Personal Goals:
- Travel somewhere new
- Make sure I am spending money on things I actually use
- Make new friends
- Reconnect with family & friends when we can
- Read more books
- Begin saving for a house/flat deposit
- Sort out all of my photos on my laptop and get some printed to put up in my room
- Get back into exercising
- Be more present instead of always online
- Find a good balance between saving and spending
- Finish off the decor in my bedroom
As you can see my goals for both myself, my blog, and my YouTube channel are a little less ambitious this year as I am unsure what is to come and what may be possible therefore, I have kept them quite simple. It still maybe a few months before we can do normal things again so I am definitely taking each day as it comes. Also because of everything that has happened this year I actually haven’t blogged as much as I would have liked to. Therefore, there isn’t a blog post for every month and there isn’t much variation either as I was catching up on blog posts from 2019.
