Hey everyone, so this is a well overdue birthday blog post as I turned 25 on the 28th of May. However, I have just been so busy since then and we have also been dealing with losing a very close family friend of ours. I wasn’t in the right frame of mind to sit down and write a blog post and I never like to force myself to write one. However, I finally feel ready and I definitely wanted to post this one as it was such a good birthday.
As I had a lockdown birthday last year I wanted to make sure that this year was extra special but also because I was turning 25. Luckily restrictions here in the UK eased on the 17th of May allowing us to eat indoors and also go and stay in self-catered accommodation. I decided to take the week off as I really wanted to make the most of turning 25 but also the most of being able to do things again.
The weekend before my birthday week I decided to book a mini solo staycation in West Sussex. I stayed in the small village of Easebourne which is near to the town of Midhurst. I managed to find a really cute Airbnb which I absolutely adored. I had such a wonderful few days and it was really the break I needed before the mayhem of my birthday week. I am going to do a blog post about my stay after this one. My mini solo staycation was from Saturday 22nd May to Monday 24th May. I came back in the afternoon and then got ready to go out to eat for my friend Alex’s birthday. We went to Honest Burgers which was my first time but I really enjoyed it the chips are delicious.
On the Tuesday before my birthday, I went out for dinner with two of my best friends. We went to Hawksmoor in Piccadilly Circus which specialises in steaks. I had never been to this restaurant before however, I had heard good things about it. It is definitely the type of place to go to for a special occasion as it isn’t cheap at all. I got the sirloin steak which was 400g and was £32.00 I also got the peppercorn sauce to go with it which was £3.oo. My friends got the Rib-eye which was 400g and was £34.00. We then all shared some triple-cooked chips for £5.00, macaroni cheese for £6.50, & some buttered English greens for £4.50. Overall, the food was really good and I would definitely go again the restaurant was really packed so it was quite loud but we all had a great evening and it was so nice to catch up with friends after not seeing them for such a long time.
My actual birthday was on a Friday this year which was a nice day to have your 25th birthday. I had hoped to organise a proper birthday party but life had other plans which in a way worked out well. My day started off with a bit of a lay-in before I got ready to run some errands such as collecting my birthday cake and birthday balloons which I had ordered in advance. I also wanted to take myself on a solo lunch date which is something I really enjoy doing at the moment. Luckily, I was collecting the cake and the balloons just down the road at Westfield London so there were a lot of places to eat to choose from.
I decided to go for Ping Pong which is a Chinese Dim Sum restaurant who are well known for their cheap happy hours. As I was dining alone I thought that this would be a good place to go to as I could just get a few smaller dishes. I went for the black prawn dumpling which was £5.75, the vegetable spring roll which was £3.55, and the char sui bun which was £4.75. All of them were really tasty and it was just enough food for me. I really love dining out alone as I can order what I want and either eat it quickly if I am in a rush or take my time. Ping Pong is really reasonable as well as my lunch only cost around £20 which isn’t too bad at all.
After lunch, I went home and relaxed for the rest of the afternoon before opening my presents with my mum and my cousin who was staying with us for a few days to celebrate. I was so grateful for everything that I had received as so many of my friends and family had really thought about my presents which made them all that more special. One thing that means a lot to me is that my godmother bought me some beautiful flowers which I am glad that I took a photo of as sadly she passed away a few weeks later.
We then all got ready to go out for dinner as we had booked a reservation at Brasserie Blanc which is quite local to us. This was the first time that we had all been there and we really loved the location as it is right by the river. However, there were still some restrictions at the time so I feel like we didn’t get to experience it as well as we could have. We all enjoyed the food and they were so lovely to give me some free bubbly as it was my birthday even though I don’t drink so my cousin had mine. It was really nice to get dressed up though and to go out to a restaurant as they had only been open indoors for a few weeks.
As it was my birthday we got starters to share which were the Moroccan Mezze Platter which was £7.95 and the ‘BB’ Cheese Souffle which was £6.95. We then all got a steak, I got the ‘Le Grand’ Steak Frites which was £19.90 which was a sirloin steak, chips, and peppercorn sauce which was an extra price. My cousin and my mum got the Sirloin Steak 8oz which was £19.50 with chips. Overall, we enjoyed the restaurant and would definitely go again as the staff was great.
I had such a special birthday as it went on for weeks afterwards as I always try and see all of my friends and family at different times. This year was particularly special as last year was a one of a kind birthday in lockdown that I will never forget. Therefore, I made sure to make the most of this birthday but also because I was turning 25. If any of my family or friends are reading this thank you for making it so special!!
